More

Solution to wash walls:
1 gallon water
1 cup amonia
1/2 cup vinegar
1/2 cup soda

(Now doesn't this sound like fun? Myself I will use Awesome--best cleaner I have ever come across and it sells in the Dollar Stores for $1 a bottle. Dilutes for most jobs)

---------
Gum Drop Cookies
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup white sugar
2/3 cup shortening ---1/2 lard and 1/2 butter (not sure how one divides 2/3 in half-but--)
1/2 cup nuts
2 eggs
1 cup gum drops-cut in pieces
2 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon Baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon vanilla
Press balls down with fork dipped in milk. (I'm assuming here one rolls the dough into a ball and press with the fork like one does with peanut butter cookies.) no time or temp given. Would guess 350 for about 15 minutes

Chunk Pickles

The seventh day cut in chunks the size preferred. Put in brine of 2 cups vinegar and enough cold water to cover. Add 1 teaspoon (rounded) alum. Cover with grape leaves and simmer for an hour until pickles look clean, DO NOT BOIL
Let stand in this brine for 3 days--Drain
Put back in crock.
Make syrup of 3 lbs sugar
1 pint vinegar

Tried chocolate cake

Tried the chocolate cake from earlier, the one where you put the dry cake mix over the liquid. WELL, it was good, however when I make it again, will take about a cup and a half of the hot water and actually mix the dry cake mix with that and then put it over the water/cocoa/brown sugar/ marshmallows mixture in the pan. I think spooning it over the top will work better. served it with whipped topping. It made kind of a pudding on the bottom with cake on the top.
