Chocolate pie

Chocolate Pie

Baked pie crust

1/2 cup sugar
2 Tablespoons cocoa
Yolks of 2 eggs
1 pint milk
2 tablespoons corn starch
1 teaspoon vanilla

Cook until thickened and put in baked pie crust. put whipped cream on top to serve.

PepperNuts

1 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup lard
2 eggs
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon EACH cinnamon, allspice, cloves and nutmed
1/4 teaspoon Annis oil OR 1 1/4 teaspoon Annis extract
1 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup finely chopped nuts
1 1/4 cup white syrup (bring to boil and add to above)
Flour to make stiff dough.

Roll into thin ropes, cut into 1/2" pieces Bake

Rice Pudding
3/4 cup rice (boil till tender with a pinch of salt--drain)
Sugar to sweeten
little nutmeg
2 eggs
3/4 cup milk
1 cup raisins if desired
Put in oven and bake till browned.

(I know some of the instructions leave a lot to be desired for us "modern" cooks who are used to detailed instructions in our cookbooks---but this is the way people used to cook)
